The Byzantine Museum is housed in space that was the church of the monastery of the Franciscan, San Salvatore, founded in the 15th century. Collects excavations of Byzantine and post Byzantine years, from the excavations in the entire prefecture of Chania and collections and private donations covering the period from the early Christian era until the Ottoman period. The exhibits presented in the sections that follow chronological order and include mosaics, frescoes, icons, ceramics, sculptures, coins, mosaics and inscriptions. The purpose of the museum is the presentation of historical and artistic journey of Chania during the Byzantine and post Byzantine period.
Operating Hours
Daily 08:00 – 14:00 except Monday
