The province of Sfakia is one of the five provinces of Chania area of 468 sq. km and population of 2,162 residents.
The capital of the provincial is Chora Sfakia. Is a coastal region bordering the Libyan Sea and has a small, beautiful port.
In the province there is a thermal source (at community of Patsianos), with red and sour waters.
The province of Sfakia is one of the most mountainous areas of Crete. Almost the entire area occupied by the famous White Mountains, forming ravines and gorges, with most important: Samaria, in Lagos, the Katreas and Nimprou and rocky shores hard to be reached. Here the White Mountains meet the small plateau of Omalos (1,050 m.), which is located in the middle of the so-called Cave of Digenis. This is the biggest cave in Crete and one of the largest caves in Greece. The most striking feature of the Sfakia village is mountains and canyons.
